Project Introduction

Location: Beijing,China

Project Name: Uninterrupted Data Communications in Beijing Subway

Products Deployed: IMC-111FB-SS-SC/CPGS-9120-M12-C

Project Requirement

ORing Enables Uninterrupted 1110 1

  • Reliable and stable vehicle communications network
  • EN50155 compliance
  • Robust design for vehicle applications such as M12 connectors

Solution

To simplify management and enhance security, trains running on Line 8 are designed to be equipped with a network consisting of two domains, one for south-bound and one for north-bound lines. A total of four ORing CPGS-9120-M12-C Ethernet switch cards have been installed at the locomotives, two at the front and two at the rear, to enable data transmission between ATO, ATP, and BTM systems in the vehicles.

To achieve wireless communications between onboard devices and communications between the vehicles and stations, a number of APs have been installed in the trains as well as by the trackside where they are placed 200 meters from each other. Each AP is connected to the ground control center via ORing's IMC-111FB-SS-SC media converter. This network design ensures data such as the location of the train and obstacles on the track can be transmitted between the vehicles and the control center during the operation of the train.

Featuring eight Gigabit copper ports and four Gigabit M12 ports in a Compact PCI form factor, the EN50155-compliant CPGS-9120-M12-C supports ORing's proprietary network redundancy technology O-Ring. In case of failures, the network which supports up to 250 nodes will recover spontaneously in 30ms. The performance of ORing's CGPS-series Ethernet switch cards has been widely verified in railway applications.

Since December 28, 2011, ORing's network communications solution has been operating in Line 8. After years of operation, the solution has proven to provide topnotch stability among Beijing's subway systems. Based on the success of Line 8, the subway company has adopted ORing's solution in Beijing Subway's Line 5, also known as the Chongqing Line, to provide data communications for several lines in Chongqing's subway system. So far, ORing's solutions have been widely adopted in Beijing's subway systems including Line 11, Line 16, subway depots in Shanghai, Line 8, and Line 5.
