Project Introduction

Location: London,UK

Project Name: Transmission of Surveillance Data in London

Products Deployed: TES-150-M12

Project Requirement

  • EN50155 compliance
  • Vibration-resistant M12 connectors to ensure robust connection
  • Resistance to harsh environment conditions

Solution

The train company in London was going to refurbish their 4-unit trains on one of the main commuter lines to enhance travel safety for passengers. A leading manufacturer of CCTV and related systems has chosen ORing's EN50155 Ethernet switches to help them build the in-vehicle communication network. The TES-150-M12 Ethernet switch for this project has proved to be a robust solution for the main Ethernet backbone along the train.

The TES-150-M12 switches in each carriage are linked to a digital hybrid video recorder (DVR), the On Train Monitoring Recorder (OTMR) and the embedded PC with a 3G router. The CCTV system consists of 2 analogue cameras inside each of the 4 carriages for video surveillance. One forward facing camera is mounted on each end of the train to detect near misses and obstructions on the track.

The other camera, mounted on the train roof, is used to view the correct operation of the pantograph unit in the middle of the train. The video images from the array of cameras are fed into a DVR in each carriage.

With the ORing TES-150-M12 Ethernet backbone in place, the operator can be sure data is transmitted to the control center reliably as the EN50155-compliant industrial Ethernet switch is designed for harsh environment featuring severe vibration.
