Solution

STP consists of on-board and ground equipment. The station usually has one piece of ground equipment and the locomotive usually has one piece of on-board equipment. On-board equipment includes a host device, an inquiry host for transponder, an inquiry antenna for transponder, and a wireless communications device. Ground equipment includes an interlocking data acquisition device, a host device, a vehicle operation terminal, an electricity maintenance terminal, a wireless communications device, a switch, a network communications device, a printer, and a transponder.

Data between on-board and ground equipment is transmitted via wireless networks. ORing helped the customer install an IGAP-620 wireless AP on each train car. With two Gigabit Ethernet ports, the IGAP-620 supports IEEE802.11 a/b/g/n wireless networks with a speed of 300Mbps. On-board equipment data in each train car such as shunting signals, locomotive positions and speeds, stopping distance, and locomotive operations can be sent to ground equipment via wireless networks that cover the entire station, allowing ground staff to calculate and track locomotive positions and status.

Ground equipment can also send signals to the locomotive via wireless connections to monitor and control shunting processes. Shunting locomotive drivers can get hold of the situations at the station and brake when necessary to ensure shunting safety. Locomotives need to conduct massive disassembly and reassembly operations at the marshalling yard.

To reduce staff's workload on network configuration, prevent potential manned errors during shunting, and enable automatic assembly, the IGAP-620 can automatically detect IGAP-620s in adjacent train cars during reassembly and establish wireless connections, ensuring locomotives remain in the same segment for uninterrupted wireless communications. The IGAP-620 is an industrial wireless AP supporting high-speed roaming and X-roaming technology. With handoff latency of less than 60ms, the AP promises zero packet loss during wireless communications.
