Solution

Ferrero needs to build a water harvesting system near the production lines to investigate water quality. A small PLC has been installed in the system to collect data such as water quality and water flow. The data needs to be transmitted to the MES in the production facility. As the production lines have started operation and the ground around the plant has been hardened, using large-sized machines is unfeasible. Therefore, the transmission network must be designed separately. Ferrero hopes to create a reliable, industrial-grade wireless network for this project.

ORing has provided the IAP-W520+ AP for Ferrero. The industrial IEEE 802 .11a/n AP for outdoor applications features an IP67 casing and two RJ45 ports. At the water harvesting system sits a IAP-W520+ which transmits data to another IAP-W520+ located at the production lines via a 5.8G Wi-Fi network. Through the connection, water quality, water flow, and other on-site data can be fed to the MES without deploying any cables. Installation is made easy with the IEEE802.3af PoE port on the IAP-W520+ as power can be supplied over Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for external power inputs. The embedded antenna supports 500mW power output and a throughput of 80Mpbs while the IP67 casing protects the AP from water exposure.

Apart from the industrial APs, ORing’s abundant hands-on experience in factory automation has also contributed to the success of the project.
